Origin

Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento was built in 1912 as Antonietta Lauro’s private villa on the cliffs of Sant’Agnello. Shaped by light, stone and the expansive horizon, from the very beginning its setting has offered a rare sense of calm along the Sorrento Coast - a feeling of suspension between sea and sky.

Over time, this sense of place has evolved into what defines the hotel today. Among the 5-star luxury hotels in Sorrento, Hotel Mediterraneo stands apart for its more intimate, boutique character. Set overlooking the Bay of Naples, it offers a refined yet relaxed atmosphere, where attentive service meets a deep connection to its surroundings. At its heart is the Monti-Maresca family, whose constant presence ensures a continuity of care, authenticity, and hospitality that has been carried forward through generations.

1950

Family Legacy

The evolution from villa to hotel began in 1950, when it first opened as a pensione with ten guest rooms. Today, it is still owned by the same family: three generations of passionate hoteliers who have built upon its spirit while preserving its heritage. The views haven’t changed. Nor has the warmth of welcome.

2018

Reimagined

In 2020, Hotel Mediterraneo underwent a complete transformation, redefining its spaces, design, and guest experience. The renovation marked a new chapter for the property including contemporary interiors, sophisticated dining, and a renewed approach to personalized luxury on the Sorrento Coast.

2019

Modern Essence

In 2021, Hotel Mediterraneo entered its first season as a five-star hotel, bringing a new level of refinement to its unmatched setting above the Gulf of Naples. In 2024, it was awarded a Michelin Key for recognition of its distinctive hospitality, atmosphere and standards.

2026

Era of Recognition

These distinctions reflect not only the hotel’s unrivalled setting, but the high caliber of a five star boutique hotel in Sorrento defined by lineage and authenticity.

The values of sustainability: environment, territory, community

Environmental and human sustainability represents authenticity and integrity. It characterizes our way of understanding the land, the sea and our relationship with others. At the Hotel Mediterraneo, everything pays homage to our region, from the authentic local materials to the architecture and furnishings, up to the zero-kilometre ingredients of our cuisine.

We strictly avoid the use of disposable plastics and other polluting materials to remain as environmentally friendly as possible. We grow alongside our community by supporting local artisan activities and bringing locals and tourists together. We guarantee the traceability of all production, consumption and the disposal of raw materials. Our governance processes are fully regulated and certified.

As part of this conscious journey, we have introduced our new courtesy line Luce di Sorrento a 100% plant-based,
cruelty-free skincare collection. It is free from harmful substances and inspired by the light and scents of the Sorrento Coast. Dermatologically tested and packaged in recyclable materials, it offers a wellness ritual respecting the environment, the skin, and the people.

As a result of our commitment, our Hotel has obtained a number of important ESG certifications, including the GSTC, the Verified Responsible Hospitality of Forbes Travel guide and the ISO 14001.
