Excursion to Capri (from Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento): general information
The 8th wonder of the world. An island that has different sides with the same incredible charm.
The natural beauties, the landscapes, the blue sea with more than 100 grottos, the incredible history, the archaeolocal sites, the elegance, the nightlife all this and much more makes a visit to Capri a must for the tourist of Sorrento area.
The blue grotto is a natural grotto with a small entrance from the sea where just a rowing boat can fit inside. Also the less popular Green and White Grotto are very very beautiful seen by the seaside. The Faraglioni rocks with natural arch is just amazing.
Villa san Michele was the house of Axel Munthe, and nowadays a mauseum located in a wonderful place with an incredible view. Villa Iovis was the biggest residence on he island of emperor Tiberio that lived in Capri his last years of life. The house is situated on a cape and overlooks Sorrento and Naples bay.
Capri is very easy to reach from Sorrento. There is the an hydrofoil (25 min) every hour during the high season. The island has 2 towns, Capri and Anacapri far 20 minutes by car or bus one from the other. The most panoramic points are often hidden, reachable just walking or by boat.
To visit the island a full day is enough; for a very complete tour also 2 days are fine. On the island is no possible to bring scooter or cars. With the famous "funicolare" is very easy to reach the Piazzeta (main square) from the harbour.
Usually the classic excursion to the island is with a group tour (available everyday during the high season). The only problem is just that the island is very touristic so the most popular places as well as the hydrofoil and the buses can be very crowded.
Concierge suggestion: the ideal to visit Capri is with a boat tour that gives you also the opportunity to go ashore to give a look to the town.
